Cross-Cutting Work Groups
Description
The Risk Work Group within CHAI is charged with developing a structured, open-source, user-friendly risk approach that aids health systems in their categorization, assessment, and mitigation of risks for health AI solutions. The goal of this Risk Work Group is to provide frameworks, tools, and resources to better ensure organizations’ AI activities align with ethical and responsible health AI standards and align with organizations’ broader strategic objectives and defined risk appetite.

The Risk Work Group’s scope of work falls within four primary phases:

Output:
CHAI’s Risk Categorization Tool (v1). This tool was developed by the CHAI Risk Work Group and is for health systems (any size) and teams responsible for pre-deployment risk review. This tool supports early AI governance by helping identify Low, Medium, or High risk levels across several risk modifiers related to life and patient safety. The tool highlights key dimensions of risk to guide further assessment, mitigation, and monitoring.
